Part 1: The 6eme Arrondissement or “The Latin Quarter”
The history of this section of Paris is directly related to the 5th district, (the University of Sorbonne), with its students but it has always been an area for writers, artists, furniture makers, art galleries, antique dealers, shoemakers and top Couture Designers. If you’re lucky, you may see Catherine Deneuve or an aging French rock star or even, as I did, John Galliano himself. I personally have a very long history of living in the area of the 5th and 6th so I am happy we will spend a few shows in this section of Paris. So pour your glass of wine, or add some creme to your coffee, and let’s visit the 6th!
What is the Soul of the 6th Arrondissement
The history of this section of Paris is directly related to the 5th district (the University of Sorbonne) with its students but it has always been a friendly area for writers, artists, furniture makers, art galleries, antique dealers, shoemakers and later top French Couture Designers. If you’re lucky, you may see Catherine Deneuve or an aging French rock star or even as I did, the monsieur John Galliano himself shopping in an antique stores with his assistant. Star sightings? Most probably. The area would not be complete without mentioning Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin who both who lived in the area and were essentially the entertainment/style “power couple” of the 1960’s and 1970s. Their home is now a museum that is called the “Serge Gainsbourg” experience and I understand that even the ashtrays are filled with old cigarette butts, so yes, it is an experience. His daughter, Charlotte *with assistance from Jane B.) made sure that his home would tell his true story.
